Kidney Institute Facilities The Kidney Institute of the Desert first opened its doors to the community in Indio in 1987. It was envisioned and created by Dr. Jambur Chandrashekar and Dr. Richard Stone to provide quality dialysis care to those in the Coachella Valley with kidney failure. At that time, there was no such facility in the east end of the Valley. After earning a reputation for providing quality care, they opened their second Kidney Institute on the campus of Eisenhower Medical Center in 1998. With the growth of the community and the need to bring dialysis options closer to the them, the need for a third and fourth facility arose. In 2002, Dr. Naren Chandrashekar joined these efforts and together, Drs. Jambur and Naren Chandrashekar opened the La Quinta Kidney Center in 2011 and the Coachella Kidney Institute in 2013. Now the Kidney Institutes comprise these four locations: Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, Indio, and Coachella. They continue to provide quality care to the Coachella Valley’s kidney failure community and serve as a friendly place for visitors to the Palm Springs area to receive their dialysis treatments. Visitors are welcome to our facilities and come from all regions of the United States and Canada. Many return on an annual basis to enjoy our gorgeous winter season. With locations through out the Valley, we are able to be close to more of our community so that their travel time can be minimized. We continue to provide the highest quality care for those with kidney failure with the help of our friendly staff and knowledgable physicians.
